Animation

ilikecake is capable of producing most types of animation in house. However there are limitations placed on the type of animation which can be included in a web page due to accessibility standards.

Despite this, we strive to meet the client’s needs while still providing usable sites for people with disabilities. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of this by using new technologies and software.

What can be done…

CSS animation

Using CSS 2 we are able to provide accessible web site animation on links, image visibility and opacity and “always there navigation” and “always there site elements”

Flash animation

Using the latest technologies it is now possible for us to produce Flash animation which complies with the guidelines. This can be used in advertisements, company logos, and web site intro pages.

Flash can be used on an accesible site once the following is satisfied

  • it is not possible to use flash for entire site - site must be primarily (x)html based
  • can use it for flash headers, advertisements etc. as long as the animation can be turned off by the user
  • Flash content must not contain ‘blinking’ or ‘flickering’ elements

3D

3d animation adds significantly to the prestige of a site, as it is complex. In the past we have used this on company logos which play on entering a web site. It can also be used for intros.

Animated Gifs

Animated Gifs really shouldn’t be used, however, if they are a requirement they can be used on site once the Flicker rate is not between 4-59 hertz (flashes per second)

Accessible

All of the animation placed in web sites developed by us is WCAG complient and is designed so it can be turned off so that it won't interfere with screen readers or cause an epileptic fit.
